Structures in Isolation — Simon Butterworth Photography

The following images were all created in the Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is a huge and largely unknown area with an abundance of space. Most of the small structures are shepherds cottages, shelters or isolated barns often situated many miles from roads or the nearest habitation.

Finding these places involved many hours searching maps and satellite images followed by long walks or cycle rides to reach each location. Luckily, I live in the area so I can wait for the finest and most suitable light before heading out with my camera.
